Details: The kar seva pramukh at Nanakmatta Gurdwara in Uttarakhand was shot dead by two masked assailants early on Thursday morning. The victim, identified as Baba Tarsem Singh, fell prey to the attackers’ bullets, prompting swift action from authorities. In response, a Special Investigation Team (SIT) has been assembled to delve into the circumstances surrounding the tragic event.
Uttarakhand’s Director General of Police confirmed the incident, stating that the news of the murder reached authorities at 7 am today. “We received information around 7 am today that between 6.15 and 6.30 am, two masked assailants entered Nanakmatta Gurdwara and shot kar seva pramukh, Baba Tarsem Singh,” said Uttarakhand DGP Abhinav Kumar.
Despite being rushed to Khatima hospital for urgent medical attention, Baba Tarsem Singh succumbed to his injuries shortly after. “Senior officials have reached the spot. For investigations, the Police Headquarters has formed an SIT. A Special Task Force (STF) has been told to keep this as their top priority and probe all angles minutely,” the DGP added.
Inquiries into the identities of the assailants are ongoing. “We have to not only identify the assailants but also the conspiracy behind this murder, if any. We have also contacted the central agencies to share useful inputs related to this matter with us,” stated the DGP.
Previous Threats: Prior to the fatal attack, Baba Tarsem Singh had expressed concerns over his safety. In a Facebook post dated February 16, he had alleged that his life was under threat. Singh further claimed that the Facebook page of the gurdwara committee had made serious accusations against him, thereby misleading the organization.
Through his post, Singh appealed for any complaints against him to be discussed in person, rather than being disseminated on social media platforms. He also pointed fingers at the supporters of the committee, stating that they posed a threat to his life and should be held accountable for any harm that befell him.
