A. Ganeshamoorthy, the sitting MDMK MP from Tamil Nadu’s Erode, who attempted suicide a few days ago, has passed away due to cardiac arrest early on Thursday morning. The tragic incident follows his consumption of pesticide and subsequent medical treatment.

Marumalarchi Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (MDMK) MP A. Ganeshamoorthy, who made headlines recently for attempting suicide by consuming pesticide, has tragically succumbed to cardiac arrest. The 76-year-old lawmaker breathed his last during treatment at a private hospital in Coimbatore at around 5 am, according to reports from news agency ANI.

Ganeshamoorthy, elected on a DMK ticket in the 2019 Lok Sabha polls from Erode, had been experiencing health complications since March 24, when he developed uneasiness and vomited. Promptly admitted to a private hospital in Erode by his family, he was soon transferred to the ICU and placed on a ventilator, as confirmed by police sources cited by news agency PTI.

In a tragic turn of events, Ganeshamoorthy disclosed to his family members that he had consumed pesticide, leading to immediate medical attention and subsequent transfer to a private hospital in Coimbatore, accompanied by medical personnel and family members.

Following his demise, hospital authorities handed over the body to the police for further procedures, including an autopsy at the Institute of Road Transport (IRT) Medical College Hospital. MDMK sources informed PTI that post-mortem examinations will be followed by arrangements for his burial in Kumaravalasu village, located 15 km from Erode.

Ganeshamoorthy, a seasoned politician, had previously clinched victories in the Lok Sabha polls from Palani in 1998 and Erode in 2009. He leaves behind a son and a daughter, mourning his untimely departure.
