Prime Minister Narendra Modi is currently on a historic two-day visit to Brunei, where he has been engaging in key diplomatic and cultural activities. Today, he visited the renowned Omar Ali Saifuddien Mosque, one of Brunei’s most iconic landmarks. The mosque, named after the 28th Sultan of Brunei, is renowned for its architectural grandeur and significance.

The visit to the mosque is part of Modi’s broader aim to strengthen bilateral relations between India and Brunei. Shortly after his visit to the mosque, PM Modi inaugurated the new Chancery of the Indian High Commission in Bandar Seri Begawan. This new facility, located in the Jalan Duta Diplomatic Enclave, is adjacent to the US Embassy and represents a significant upgrade for India’s diplomatic presence in Brunei.

The opening of the chancery was marked by a warm reception from the local Indian community. External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar and National Security Adviser Ajit Doval joined PM Modi for the event, which included the lighting of a lamp and unveiling of a commemorative plaque.

The new chancery is noted for its blend of traditional Indian design motifs with contemporary elements. It features elegant cladding and durable Kota stones, creating a tranquil and aesthetically pleasing environment. The design reflects India’s rich cultural heritage while offering a modern diplomatic space.

During his visit, PM Modi also took the opportunity to interact with local officials, scholars, and members of the Indian community who had gathered in large numbers. This engagement highlights the strengthening ties between the two nations.

PM Modi’s arrival at Bandar Seri Begawan Airport marked the beginning of this landmark visit, which is the first-ever bilateral trip by an Indian Prime Minister to Brunei. The visit coincides with the 40th anniversary of diplomatic relations between India and Brunei, underscoring the importance of this milestone.

The historic nature of this trip, combined with the key events and interactions during his visit, aims to bolster the relationship between India and Brunei. The visit is expected to pave the way for deeper cooperation and understanding between the two countries in various fields.
