Nationwide Raids Conducted by NIA in Human Trafficking Cases

The National Investigation Agency (NIA) initiated widespread raids in eight states and two Union Territories in connection with human trafficking cases. These actions, which have international implications, are part of NIA’s specialized anti-human trafficking probe unit.

The locations targeted in these raids include Tripura, Assam, West Bengal, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Telangana, Haryana, Puducherry, Rajasthan, and Jammu and Kashmir. While last month’s arrest of Mohammad Imran Khan in Tamil Nadu was related to the illegal stay of Sri Lankan nationals in India, it remains unclear whether these raids are directly linked to that case.

Further details regarding the ongoing raids will be disclosed at a later time. The NIA is renowned for its expertise in investigating human trafficking cases with global connections. In 2022, the agency probed the trafficking of Rohingyas and Bangladeshi Muslims into Indian territory, involving their settlement with fraudulent documents.
