The State highway connecting Thripunithura with Kottayam is in tatters, the Hill Palace Road on the Thiruvankulam stretch is pothole-ridden, the Pettah bridge is bumpy, S.N. Junction and the Pettah-Kundannur-Maradu road are broken. All the arterial roads in and around Thripunithura are chock-a-block with vehicles, giving the traffic police a tough time. Vehicles move slowly with their having to apply brakes every five to 10 metrss.
Though there were protests by political parties against the condition of the Puthiyakavu Road, the Public Works Department (PWD) had only filled some of the gaping potholes. However, they have reappeared after some spells of heavy rain.
Heavy traffic
All the roads around the town witness heavy traffic as one is a State highway. The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI), and Kochi metro are the agencies responsible for other roads. Congestion on these roads affects many roads in the town too.
Traffic policemen took the initiative to fill gaping potholes on Sunday at Puthiyakavu, said traffic sub-inspector Raju.
PWD official cited a technical issue that is delaying the tarring of the road. Besides, the work done during the season with frequent heavy rain would make it look temporary, said the official.
