Vijay’s latest film, The Greatest of All Time (GOAT), directed by Venkat Prabhu, made a strong debut with an estimated ₹43 crore collection on its opening day. This impressive figure marks the highest opening day collection of 2024 in Tamil cinema, surpassing the previous records set by Dhanush’s Raayan and Kamal Haasan’s Indian 2.
While GOAT set a new benchmark, it did not surpass the opening day earnings of Vijay’s previous film, Leo, which garnered ₹63 crore on its first day. For context, Vijay’s 2023 release, Varisu, had an opening day collection of ₹26.5 crore, going head-to-head with Ajith’s Thunivu.
In contrast, some estimates, including those from Pinkvilla, suggest that GOAT could have earned around ₹55 crore on its opening day. This discrepancy highlights the variability in box office reporting.
The film features a star-studded cast, including Vijay, Prashanth, Ajmal Ameer, Sneha, Laila, Meenakshi Chaudhary, Prabhudeva, Mohan, and Jayaram. Venkat Prabhu’s regular collaborators, such as Vaibhav, Premgi, Ajai Raj, and Aravind Akash, also make appearances.
GOAT benefits from a strong technical team, with music by Yuvan Shankar Raja, cinematography by Siddhartha Nuni, editing by Venkat Raajen, and action choreography by Dileep Subbarayan. Produced by Kalpathi S Aghoram under the AGS Entertainment banner, Archana Kalpathi served as the creative producer.
The film is released in Tamil, Hindi, and Telugu, with Zee Studios handling its distribution across North India in these languages. This multi-language release aims to maximize its reach and audience engagement.
With a stellar cast and team behind it, GOAT is set to continue drawing significant audiences and making headlines in the coming weeks. The film’s performance will be closely watched as it seeks to solidify its place in the 2024 box office landscape.
