Police have registered a case against a Tamil Nadu BJP member for arguing with a woman doctor at a government hospital for wearing a hijab.
A Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) member from Tamil Nadu’s Nagapattinam has been booked for raising an objection to a woman doctor wearing a hijab while on night duty at a government primary health centre. The man argued with the doctor about her choice of clothing.
In a video that has now gone viral, the BJP member, Bhuvaneswar Ram, can be seen creating a ruckus at the government health centre and objecting to a woman doctor, Jannath Firdhouse, wearing a hijab.
In the video, Bhuvaneshwar Ram can be heard asking the doctor on night duty if she was indeed a doctor as she was not wearing any uniform and sporting a hijab and a burqa instead.
The incident took place at the Tirupundi primary health centre in Nagapattinam district where the suspect had brought his neighbour as he had reportedly complained of chest pain.
Others who were present at the spot also recorded a video of Bhuvaneshwar Ram creating a ruckus and pointed out that he was filming a woman doctor at night without permission.
Following the incident, the police booked the BJP member and launched a manhunt to nab him.
