After Pakistan’s disappointing performance in the three-match Test series against Australia, where they suffered a 0-3 whitewash, new T20I captain Shaheen Afridi acknowledged the poor outing of the pacers, including himself, as “disheartening.” He expressed surprise at the low bowling speeds and stated that the team was unable to understand the reason behind the slow pace despite their efforts. Shaheen, who was rested for the final Test due to workload management, is set to lead Pakistan in a five-match T20I series against New Zealand.

Looking ahead to the T20I series, Shaheen mentioned the inclusion of young players such as Azam Khan, Aamer Jamal, Sahibzada Farhan, Haseebullah, and Abbas Afridi. He emphasized the importance of assessing different combinations in the 17 matches leading up to the T20 World Cup, with the goal of finalizing the team combination before the England tour.

The 23-year-old captain indicated potential changes in the playing XI and highlighted the need to explore various combinations in preparation for the upcoming T20 World Cup.
