A 38-year-old man from Edavanna, Malappuram, has been admitted to Manjeri Medical College Hospital with suspected Mpox symptoms. The man, who recently returned from Dubai, sought medical attention after experiencing a high fever.

Doctors at Manjeri Hospital noticed bumps on his body, raising concerns about a possible Mpox infection. Health officials have sent his samples to Kozhikode Medical College for further testing. The results are currently awaited to confirm the diagnosis.

Mpox, previously known as monkeypox, is a viral zoonotic disease caused by the Mpox virus. It is primarily found in tropical rainforest areas of Central and West Africa. The World Health Organization (WHO) renamed the disease to “Mpox” to avoid stigma and misinterpretation.

Common symptoms include fever, rash, and swollen lymph nodes. The rash typically starts on the face and spreads to other parts of the body. In some cases, Mpox may lead to serious medical complications.

Transmission of the virus can occur through direct contact with infected animals’ blood, bodily fluids, or skin lesions. Human-to-human transmission is possible through respiratory droplets, direct contact with infected bodily fluids or lesions, and indirectly via contaminated materials.

Malappuram health officials are closely monitoring the situation. Travelers and residents are advised to remain vigilant for symptoms and seek medical advice if necessary.

The public is urged to maintain good hygiene practices, avoid direct contact with infected individuals, and report any suspicious symptoms to health authorities.

As the man remains under observation, health officials stress the importance of awareness and caution to prevent possible outbreaks.
