Kerala’s IT Community Takes a Stand Against Drug Abuse: Over 1000 Techies Rally in Infopark

In response to the escalating concerns surrounding drug and substance abuse in Kerala, particularly among the youth, the Information Technology (IT) professionals of the state have joined forces to launch a robust awareness campaign. The initiative aims to shed light on the severe consequences of drug abuse, affecting individuals and tearing apart families and society as a whole.

The inaugural event of this comprehensive campaign took place at Infopark Cochin, featuring the active participation of over 1000 techies from various companies within the technology hub. Organized by the Group of Technology Companies (GTECH), the industry body representing IT companies in Kerala, the event boasted a series of impactful activities, including a mob dance by CEOs, special addresses by renowned film personalities, a bike rally, and a live band performance.

Thrikakkara MLA Uma Thomas, who inaugurated the event, expressed deep concern over the significant surge in drug-related cases in Kerala, emphasizing the need for a united front against this societal menace. She commended the massive turnout at the event, stating that it marked an inspiring beginning for a cause of great social importance. Thomas stressed the importance of transforming such initiatives into a widespread public movement to make Kerala a drug-free state.

The grand finale of the campaign is set to be the GTECH marathon scheduled for February 11, 2024, at Infopark Cochin. With over 5,000 runners expected to participate, it promises to be the largest marathon ever held in Kerala. Registration for participation is open at www.gtechmarathon.com.

GTECH, with a membership base of 300+ IT companies representing 80% of IT professionals in the state, has taken a leading role in mobilizing the tech community against drug abuse. Major IT corporations, including TCS, Infosys, Wipro, Cognizant, IBS Software, UST, EY, Tata Elxsi, among others, are active members of GTECH, underscoring the collective commitment to building a drug-free Kerala.
