India Shines with Record 29 Medals at Paris Paralympics

India secures a record 29 medals at the Paris Paralympics 2024, with a total of seven gold, nine silver, and 13 bronze medals.

India has achieved a historic milestone at the Paris Paralympics 2024, securing a record 29 medals. This impressive performance marks a significant improvement over the 19 medals won at the Tokyo 2020 Paralympics, placing India 18th in the overall medals tally.

The Indian contingent’s haul includes seven gold, nine silver, and 13 bronze medals. On the final day of the Games, Pooja Ojha competed in the women’s kayak single 200m KL1 sprint canoeing event but did not secure a podium finish. Nevertheless, India’s overall performance at the Games has been a major success.

The gold medalists from India include Avani Lekhara in the women’s 10m air rifle standing SH1 (shooting), Nitesh Kumar in men’s singles SL3 (badminton), and Sumit Antil in men’s javelin throw F64 (athletics). Other gold winners are Harvinder Singh in men’s individual recurve (archery), Dharambir in men’s club throw F51 (athletics), Praveen Kumar in T64 high jump (athletics), and Navdeep Singh in men’s javelin F41 (athletics).

Silver medals were awarded to Manish Narwal in men’s 10m air pistol SH1 (shooting), Nishad Kumar in men’s high jump T47 (athletics), and Yogesh Kathuniya in men’s discus throw F56 (athletics). Additional silver medals went to Thulasimathi Murugesan in women’s singles SU5 (badminton), Suhas Yathiraj in men’s singles SL4 (badminton), Ajeet Singh in men’s javelin F46 (athletics), Sharad Kumar in men’s high jump T63 (athletics), Sachin Khilari in men’s shot put F46 (athletics), and Pranav Soorma in men’s club throw F51 (athletics).

In the bronze category, notable winners include Mona Agarwal in women’s 10m air rifle standing SH1 (shooting), Preethi Pal in women’s 100m T35 and 200m T35 (athletics), and Rubina Francis in women’s 10m air pistol SH1 (shooting). Other bronze medalists are Manisha Ramadass in women’s singles SU5 (badminton), Nithya Sre Sivan in women’s singles SH6 (badminton), and Deepthi Jeevanji in women’s 400m T20 (athletics).

Sundar Singh Gurjar in men’s javelin F46 (athletics), Mariyappan Thangavelu in men’s high jump T63 (athletics), Hokato Sema in men’s shot put F57 (athletics), and Simran Singh in women’s 200m T12 (athletics) also earned bronze medals. Kapil Parmar won in judo men’s 60kg (judo), and Rakesh Kumar and Sheetal Devi secured a bronze in the mixed team compound open (archery).

India’s exceptional performance at the Paris Paralympics 2024 underscores the country’s growing prowess in the global sports arena.
