According to Microsoft’s Work Trend Index 2025, more than 59% of Indian business leaders are already using AI agents to automate tasks in their teams. Around 93% of leaders said they plan to use AI agents more in the next 12–18 months to improve productivity.
The report is based on surveys of 31,000 workers from 31 countries, LinkedIn trends, and Microsoft 365 productivity data. It shows that Indian businesses are adopting AI faster than many global companies. Leaders are focusing on productivity, using multiple AI systems, and training employees to work with AI.
Puneet Chandok, President of Microsoft India & South Asia, said, “AI can remove repetitive work and let people focus on creative and meaningful tasks. This requires a new way of working.”
Microsoft calls the new organisational model ‘Frontier Firms’. These companies use hybrid human-AI teams, fast operations, and AI in daily decisions. Employees in Indian Frontier Firms reported a 71% higher satisfaction rate compared to 37% globally.
The report also shows AI is not replacing jobs but changing them. Over 92% of Indian leaders plan to create new AI-specific roles like workflow designers, software operators, and AI managers. About 57% of leaders expect teams to use multiple AI agents to handle complex tasks.
Upskilling is a priority. 51% of leaders said AI training will be their main focus in the next year or so. 63% of managers believe AI training will become a key part of team responsibilities in the next five years. Currently, 80% of Indian leaders are familiar with AI agents, compared to 66% of employees.
The report shows that AI is helping Indian companies work smarter, improve productivity, and create new opportunities for employees.
