Gangster Anil Dujana, who had more than 60 cases, including 18 murders, registered against him, was killed in a shootout with the Uttar Pradesh Police on Thursday. Cops said they had set up a checkpoint to nab Anil Dujana in Merrut where he opened fire at the police team, leading to a shootout.
Notorious gangster Anil Dujana was killed in an encounter with the Uttar Pradesh Police’s Special Task Force on Thursday. According to the police, the encounter took place in Meerut where Dujana opened fire at a police team while trying to escape from it.
Anil Dujana had more than 60 cases, including 18 murders, registered against him in western Uttar Pradesh. Dujana was released from Tihar Jail on April 10, and since then, was said to have been threatening people who had testified against him in court.

According to sources, the Uttar Pradesh Police’s STF received information that gangster Anil Dujana and his gang were going to be traveling from Baghpat to Muzaffarnagar. According to the inputs received by the police, Dujana was travelling in a white Scorpio car that had a Delhi registration. His car was supposed to pass via Meerut’s Bhole ki Jhal canal.
Acting on this information, the UP Police STF set up a checkpoint near the canal to nab the gangster. On noticing the presence of the police team at the spot, Dujana tried to change directions, during which his car collided with a roadside pole. Following this, the gangster started firing at the police team, sources said.
The police team returned fire immediately and Anil Dujana was shot in the ensuing gunfight. He later died of his injuries, the police said.
Following the shootout, the police identified 18 spots where bullet remnants landed. The police also said that they recovered 50 to 60 cartridges, a 9 mm gun, a country-made pistol, and another pistol from him.
Speaking at a press meet, UP Police ADG (Law and Order) Prashant Kumar said, “According to reports, a criminal named Anil Dujana, who was recently released from prison, was travelling from Baghpat to Muzaffarnagar to meet his associates. An STF was deployed on the spot based on this information.”
“When both parties came face-to-face, Anil Dujana changed his route and his car collided with a pole. Anil and his gang fired around 15 to 20 shots. The STF too returned fire, leading to a gunfight and the miscreant’s death,” the additional director general of police added.
He was among the criminals who were being monitored by the high command, Prashant Kumar said.
