The accused, who was drunk, forced his way into her room and harassed the woman, but ran away when she raised an alarm.
Jaipur: A Mexican woman was allegedly molested by the general manager of a luxury hotel in the state capital, the police said on Thursday.
The Jaipur police has arrested Rishi Raj Singh of Rajputana Sheraton hotel on allegations of trying to sexually harass a 25-year-old Mexican woman after forcefully entering her room. He was produced in the court on Thursday which handed him to the police for three days remand.
According to the police, two Mexican women had come to Jaipur on Tuesday and checked into Rajputana Sheraton Hotel. After breakfast, they went for an outing in the city and returned to the hotel at night. The incident took place around 11. 30 pm when Rishi Raj Singh, who was drunk following a farewell party of a hotel employee, called up the women. When they did not answer, he went to their room, forced his way in and harassed the woman, but ran away when she raised an alarm.
The victim lodged a complaint of sexual harassment at the police control room in the early hours of Wednesday. She alleged that the manager had barged into her room while her friend was in the bathroom. CCTV footage were retrieved in which the manager was seen entering the hotel room.
“The accused was arrested on the basis of the complaint as well as CCTV footage of the hotel,” DCP (South) Vikas Pathak said. He has been booked under Sections 354 (assault or criminal force to woman with intent to outrage her modesty), 354-A (Physical contact and advances inv-olving unwelcome and ex-plicit sexual overtures) and 452 (house trespass after preparation for hurt, assault or wrongful restraint).
The victim is still in Delhi, while her friend is said to have left for her country. Their statements have been recorded. The Mexican embassy has also been informed.
