Following England’s defeat against India in the ICC T20 World Cup semifinal, Jos Buttler acknowledged India’s superior performance, admitting they were outplayed on a challenging pitch at Providence Stadium, Guyana. India, led by Rohit Sharma, secured a convincing 68-run victory, setting up a final clash with South Africa.
Buttler conceded that India deserved the win, noting they capitalized on the conditions better and outperformed England both with bat and ball. Despite a strong start in the chase, England faltered against India’s bowling attack, especially spinners who took crucial wickets.
“We let them get 20-25 runs too many. It was a challenging surface that they played well on. They outplayed us and fully deserved the win,” Buttler stated in a post-match interview.
Reflecting on England’s bowling strategy and decisions, Buttler highlighted areas where they could have performed better but credited India for their resilience and strategic play throughout the tournament.
India’s innings, boosted by Rohit Sharma’s fifty and late fireworks from Suryakumar Yadav, Hardik Pandya, and Ravindra Jadeja, saw them post a competitive total of 171/7. Despite England’s initial aggression in their chase, they faltered against India’s disciplined bowling, ultimately finishing at 103 all out.
