Chhattisgarh is set to become the next state to offer the MBBS course in Hindi, following Madhya Pradesh, Bihar, and Uttarakhand. State Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai announced this significant move during a press meet on ‘Hindi Diwas.’
Sai stated that this initiative aligns with PM Modi’s vision of imparting medical education in Hindi, expressed during a 2022 rally in Uttar Pradesh. The new Hindi MBBS course will commence from the ongoing academic session, providing an alternative for students who struggle with English-medium medical studies.
“The move will benefit students from rural areas, mainly from Hindi-medium schools,” Sai emphasized. He believes studying in Hindi will strengthen students’ basics, deepen their understanding, and help them become competent doctors.
Madhya Pradesh was the first state to introduce Hindi textbooks for the MBBS course. Union Home Minister Amit Shah launched these textbooks on October 16, 2022, as part of the state’s initiative to make medical education more accessible.
Following Madhya Pradesh, Uttarakhand also adopted this approach, introducing Hindi MBBS courses in its medical colleges. This step was widely appreciated as a means to bridge the educational gap in rural areas.
Bihar soon followed suit, announcing Hindi as a medium for MBBS courses. The state plans to follow the AIIMS Delhi syllabus for students clearing the NEET UG 2024 exam, ensuring quality education while accommodating language preferences.
Chhattisgarh’s decision aims to level the playing field for students from Hindi-medium backgrounds, offering them a fair chance to excel in the medical field without language barriers.
