India advances self-reliant defence with DRDO’s successful IADWS maiden tests.

India has taken a decisive step toward self-reliant defence with the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) successfully conducting the maiden flight tests of the Integrated Air Defence Weapon System (IADWS) off the Odisha coast. The test is a milestone under Mission Sudarshan Chakra 2035, which aims to establish a nationwide, multi-domain defence shield.

The IADWS integrates indigenous Quick Reaction Surface-to-Air Missiles (QRSAM), Advanced Very Short Range Air Defence System (VSHORADS) missiles, and Directed Energy Weapons (DEW). During the tests, three different aerial targets, including high-speed UAVs and drones, were simultaneously intercepted and destroyed.

The system is designed to provide layered protection against threats such as missiles, aircraft, and drones, with centralised command and control developed by DRDL. Defence Minister Rajnath Singh lauded the achievement, calling it a breakthrough in strengthening India’s security shield.
