Apple is in early talks with Google to use Google’s Gemini AI to upgrade Siri, its voice assistant. The company is still deciding whether to use an external AI model or continue with its own in-house Siri technology, Bloomberg News reported.
After the news, Alphabet’s shares rose 3.7% and Apple’s stock went up 1.6%.
Apple has fallen behind competitors like Google and Samsung in adding AI features to voice assistants. The new Siri is expected to handle tasks using personal context and allow full voice-based control of devices. The update, originally planned for last spring, was delayed by a year because of technical issues.
Siri has often struggled with complex tasks and working with third-party apps, unlike Alexa or Google Assistant. Earlier, Apple also considered using AI from Anthropic (Claude) or OpenAI (ChatGPT) to power the new Siri.
If Apple partners with Google, it could significantly improve Siri and make it more advanced, helping iPhone users interact with their devices more easily.
