After days of heightened military tensions and aerial attacks from across the western border, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi convened a crucial high-level meeting with the Chiefs of the Army, Navy, and Air Force, alongside Defence Minister Rajnath Singh and External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar. The strategic session focused on reviewing national security and evaluating ceasefire developments following Operation Sindoor.
First Peaceful Night After Four Days of Conflict
The Indian Army confirmed that the night of May 11 passed without any reported incidents along the Line of Control (LoC) and the International Border in Jammu & Kashmir. This marks the first major pause in hostilities since the violent escalation on May 7, when Pakistan began launching strikes using drones, missiles, and Unmanned Combat Aerial Vehicles (UCAVs), targeting both civilian areas and defense outposts.
Over 100 Terrorists Eliminated in Operation Sindoor
In a press briefing held on Sunday (May 11), senior military officials from the three services revealed significant achievements in Operation Sindoor, India’s retaliatory military operation. The strikes resulted in the elimination of over 100 terrorists, including high-profile operatives involved in the 1999 IC 814 hijacking and the 2019 Pulwama attack. Officials also confirmed that nine major terror infrastructure sites in Pakistan were destroyed.
Diplomatic Talks Yield Ceasefire Breakthrough
External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar announced on May 10 that India and Pakistan had reached a mutual “understanding” to halt all military operations and artillery fire. However, reports emerged shortly after of cross-border shelling from Pakistan in multiple locations along the Jammu sector, suggesting that tensions remain fragile despite official announcements.
Ceasefire Holding — For Now
While Monday morning has brought temporary calm, security forces remain on high alert across border regions. Intelligence agencies continue to monitor cross-border activities amid fears of proxy attacks or sabotage attempts. The government has reiterated its commitment to defend national sovereignty while urging Pakistan to fully adhere to the ceasefire arrangement.
