With the Women’s T20 World Cup 2024 around the corner, Team India is prioritizing mental strength to succeed in crucial match moments. Skipper Harmanpreet Kaur emphasized how mental resilience can turn the tide in the final overs.

Harmanpreet, who made her T20I debut in 2009, is leading India’s preparations for the tournament in the UAE. Having scored 3,426 runs in 173 T20I matches, she brings experience and focus to the team.

In a Star Sports release, Harmanpreet mentioned that India has been working on mental strength for a long time. “T20 cricket isn’t a small format. The last 4-5 overs are key, and a mentally strong team often wins. We’re focusing on staying stable in those final moments to execute our plans effectively.”

The 35-year-old captain’s extensive experience spans all cricket formats. In Tests, she has 200 runs in six matches, and in ODIs, she has scored 3,565 runs, including six centuries.

India’s squad for the T20 World Cup includes key players like Smriti Mandhana, Shafali Verma, and Deepti Sharma. The tournament starts on October 3, with India facing New Zealand in their opening match on October 4.

India is in Group A, competing with teams like Australia, Pakistan, New Zealand, and Sri Lanka. The team’s focus on mental strength is aimed at overcoming challenges faced in previous tournaments.

In the last T20 World Cup, India reached the semi-finals but fell short against Australia. This year, they aim to go further and challenge for the title.

Harmanpreet’s leadership and the team’s focus on mental toughness will be vital in the final overs, often the decisive moments in T20 cricket.
