The Congress party has declined an invite to attend the Ram Temple ceremony in Ayodhya.

The BJP strongly criticized the Congress for declining the invitation extended to its top leaders to attend the consecration ceremony of the Ram temple in Ayodhya. The BJP alleges that this move exposes the Congress party’s inherent opposition to India’s culture and Hindu religion, attributing it to feelings of “jealousy, malice, and an inferiority complex” towards Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Speaking to reporters, BJP spokesperson Sudhanshu Trivedi stated that the Ram temple symbolizes the highest values of Indian traditions and culture. However, he claimed that for the Congress and other opposition parties with a similar mindset, extremist politics takes precedence over such cultural significance.

Trivedi pointed out that while Iqbal Ansari, the Muslim litigant in the land dispute case involving the temple, has accepted the invitation, the Congress has chosen to boycott the ceremony. He accused the Congress of consistently creating hurdles during historic moments for the country, citing instances such as the inauguration of the new Parliament building, enactment of the GST, and presidential addresses to Parliament.

Trivedi rejected the Congress’ claim that the BJP and RSS had appropriated the event, emphasizing that the construction of the Ram temple should not be linked to any organization or ideology. He questioned whether the Congress still supports the idea of rebuilding the mosque that was torn down in Ayodhya in 1992.

Drawing historical parallels, Trivedi mentioned the opposition of Jawaharlal Nehru, the first Prime Minister of India, to the association of President Rajendra Prasad and some Congress leaders with the rebuilding and inauguration of the Somnath temple. He argued that the Congress is continuing Nehru’s legacy and has disowned Mahatma Gandhi’s concept of ‘Ram Rajya.’

Trivedi highlighted the national pride associated with the construction of the Ram temple after 500 years of struggle. He criticized the Congress for missing an opportunity to redeem its past mistakes and emphasized that the temple’s significance should unite people beyond political lines.

On Wednesday, Congress leaders Mallikarjun Kharge, Sonia Gandhi, and Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury declined the invitation, accusing the BJP of turning the temple consecration into a “political project” for electoral gains.
